Iris Van Herpen unveils a futuristic Couture collection inspired by aquatic architecture and bionic innovations.

Inspired by the future of floating cities and the concept of&nbsp;bionic design,&nbsp;Iris Van Herpen's&nbsp;pioneering&nbsp;Couture Fall 2023&nbsp;collection reflects a vision where people live on both land and sea. In this utopian world, our built environment becomes a natural extension of the vast aquatic landscapes, creating a&nbsp;harmonious coexistence between humanity and the world's oceans. Van Herpen's creative process began with the visionary ideas of&nbsp;Jacques Rougerie, a French architect and oceanographer, known as the architect of the&nbsp;sea. Rougerie's work bridges the gap between&nbsp;scientific exploration and architectural innovation, providing a better understanding of the complex relationship between the oceans and our built environment. His designs of underwater habitats and floating laboratories, based on his expertise as a marine biologist and architect, have inspired many &mdash; and&nbsp;Iris Van Herpen&nbsp;was no exception. Other items in the collection are influenced by the world's revolutionary first floating city, "Oceanix", currently under construction in&nbsp;South Korea. The first major manifestation of this new&nbsp;form of aquatic urbanism, designed by architect Bjarke Ingels,&nbsp;Oceanix&nbsp;integrates circular and waste-free systems, closed-loop water systems, net zero energy and coastal habitat regeneration. The result of research and development, the&nbsp;collection embodies the principles of parametric architecture, known for its fluidity, fragmentation and changing patterns.
The&nbsp;dynamic energy of design&nbsp;is evident in the explosive patterns&nbsp;of light and shadow that vibrate around the body, fractal shapes, geodesic voids and distorted perspectives that redefine traditional fashion boundaries. The&nbsp;ARCHITECTONICS&nbsp;collection dares to imagine the next frontier of humanity:&nbsp;a world where urban planning on water harmonizes with marine ecosystems. This season,&nbsp;Van Herpen's&nbsp;designs draw attention to the&nbsp;visionary ideas of Oceanix, and to the new generation of architects who show us the ingenuity and interest of&nbsp;architecture on the water.
