Riga's legendary café "All Cappuccino" celebrated its 20th anniversary
One of Riga's most iconic cafés, All Cappuccino, celebrated its 20th birthday. Since the first All Cappuccino opened on Antonijas Street in 2004, this family-run café has opened its doors on Vilandes Street and won a place in the hearts of Riga's city dwellers for its authentic atmosphere, excellent coffee and unique pastries created by the owners themselves.
"These 20 years have been an adventurous journey," says Erika Tumina, manager of the Antonijas Street café. "It started as the owners' family's idea for a café in Riga when they returned from New York, and today we are part of Riga's coffee culture. We are happy with what we have built and the people who come to us every day."
"Although All Cappuccino was not the first café in Riga, our take away coffee with properly brewed espresso, using selected beans and for 0.99 santims, was something new for the people of Riga," says Erika. "At first, it was neighbours, friends and creatives who came, for whom coffee was already part of their lifestyle. Four years later, in 2008, we opened our second café on Vilandes Street, because coffee had become a big thing in Riga, and we even worked as an espresso bar until 1am on Fridays. And now, we are pleased that the owner of another popular café in Riga tells us that they have learnt the concept of serving coffee from us."
From the very beginning, the interior of All Cappuccino on Antonijas Street reflected the owners' impressions from their travels around the metropolises and their desire to bring this sense of the world to Riga. 20 years ago, the designer Daneks Sietins, who created the café's original interior, made this idea a reality.
After some time, the need to renovate the interior arose, and four years ago the decision was taken to make a change. "It was a difficult decision - how to go about it without destroying the special feeling that has been created here, that the visitors are used to and that we all want to preserve to some extent. Our challenge was understood and solved by the artist Daria Melnikova, who has helped to renovate both the Antonijas and Vilandes Street cafés and whose role in creating a sustainable identity for All Cappuccino is very important."
"Regulars often say 'there's something new here, but I can't figure out what'. That's what we like to do - evolve while keeping what's familiar, what's loved and what's real," adds Erika.
All Cappuccino's 20th anniversary was publicly celebrated on 20 September 2024 at the Antonijas Street Café with music by DJs Sergej Ananjev (@ananyev3000), Eleonora Shlyanda and Michael Holland (@keswicklemon).
