Kate Bode is a name that’s becoming more and more familiar on music event posters across the U.S. Her voice is captivating, and her charisma makes every performance unique. In an exclusive interview with L’Officiel, she talks about her personal life, creative journey, and her upcoming single.
On Personal Life, Health, and Finding Balance
— Kate, you look amazing right now. How do you manage to balance your stage life, work, and personal life?
— Balance is probably one of the hardest yet most important things to master. I’m really lucky because I have someone by my side who supports me in everything. That gives me strength and inspiration to keep going.
— How do you take care of your health?
— I try to be mindful of what I consume — and I mean that in a broad sense. It’s not just about food; it’s also about the media I take in, the emotions I process, and everything around me. In today’s world, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by unnecessary noise. I try to keep a balance, stay open to new things, but at the same time, I focus on what truly benefits me.
— How did moving affect you?
— Oh, it was definitely a challenge! (laughs) Moving had a real impact on me, especially on my body. I gained weight — maybe from stress, the new food, or maybe all of it together. It wasn’t a joke! But I found my way back to balance — I started doing yoga and breathing exercises. It’s helped me not only physically, but also with my singing. Proper breathing is key to great vocal performance.
On Her Creative Journey in the U.S.
— Your name is becoming more and more well-known in the U.S. music scene. How did your journey here start?
— America is an amazing place for musicians. There are so many opportunities, and most importantly, there’s always a chance to be heard. I started out with open mics, creative nights, and themed parties. It’s not just about getting on stage — it’s about meeting like-minded people, musicians, producers, and other creatives who inspire you.
— Which concerts have been particularly significant for you?
— Every concert brings something new, but there are definitely a few that stand out. Working with Michael Orland has been a true honor—his support and mentorship have been instrumental in my growth as an artist. I’ve had the privilege of performing with him at Feinstein’s at Vitello’s, The Write-Off Room, El Portal Theatre, and in 2022, I had the honor of performing at a Christmas concert that was truly special. Every time we take the stage together, it’s an unforgettable experience.
Another major milestone was my solo concert at the legendary Viper Room in 2023. That night, I truly felt the power of connecting with an audience in an intimate yet electrifying setting. Performing at Stevie Mackey’s Taco Tuesday & Circle Sessions was also a dream come true. Taco Tuesday is one of the most exclusive music nights in the industry, where top-tier musicians and A-list artists gather in a warm, intimate setting to share their artistry. After my first performance there, Stevie personally invited me back for another show in April, which was such an honor. The energy, the talent in that room—it’s a truly unique experience.
A particularly special performance was on Labor Day, where I had the opportunity to share the stage with other talented artists and celebrate music with an incredible audience. The atmosphere was filled with joy, and it was a moment I will always remember.
— You’ve also performed with Todd Hunter. Tell us about that.
— Todd Hunter is an incredible pianist and a Grammy-winning musician, and working with him has been a fantastic journey. I had the privilege of singing under his accompaniment, which was an unforgettable experience. On a magical evening in 2023, the renowned Gardenia Restaurant & Lounge in Los Angeles celebrated its 43rd anniversary with a Christmas concert that left guests in awe. Being part of this special event, performing alongside such a talented musician, was truly an honor.
On the Upcoming Single and the Future
— Your fans are eagerly awaiting your new music. What can you tell us about your new project?
— For me, music isn’t just a career; it’s my life. I’ve always seen myself as a vocalist, and I’ve never doubted that path. I’m incredibly lucky to work with people like Stevie Mackey, Michael Orland, and Todd Hunter, who have been so supportive in my journey. Right now, I’m working on a new single that I can’t wait to share with everyone. It’s a project that reflects my growth as an artist, my vocal mastery, and my passion for storytelling through music.
— How would you describe your vocal style?
— Versatile, expressive, and full of emotion. I work across different genres, spanning multiple octaves, and I put my heart into every performance. I believe that talent, hard work, courage, and musicality are what define a great artist, and I strive to embody all of these qualities. I never back down from a challenge, and I’m excited for the next big step in my career—securing a major record deal and reaching even more listeners worldwide.
— What can we expect from you next?
— More music, more concerts, and hopefully, more soulful moments with my fans. Because in the end, that’s what it’s all about.
One of the most exciting upcoming events is my performance at LA Fashion Week at the end of March. Fashion has always been something I love—it’s a form of art that, just like music, allows people to express themselves. The fusion of music and fashion is magical, and I’m thrilled to be part of such a dynamic event. I believe that style and music go hand in hand, and I can’t wait to share this experience with everyone.
