Stay Home With Dior’s Charming Rose Des Vents Collection
Dior has released a series of illustrations by Victoire de Castellane on the Rose des Vents collection, and they are charmingly playful. The mini-series depicts Victoire, creative director of Dior Fine Jewellery for more than 20 years, and Monsieur Dior in various #stayathome activities, including cooking and staying active with an at-home gym, dotted with various motifs beloved by the French fashion house - the rose and the lucky star from its Rose des Vents jewellery collection.
For this season’s Rose des Vents collection, the jeweller reinterprets these motifs in the form of a wind rose - an eight pointed start, with a twist of grains that encircle the medallion, turning to switch between the hard stone and wind stone side.
“I wanted to start from the idea of a little motif pendant. And what is more metaphorical than a medallion?,” says Dior Joaillerie’s creative director. “A symbol of travel, in it you find echoes of Christian Dior’s star and the idea of the good-luck charm, but also the rose, his favorite flower. The whole history of the house is there, implicitly.”
The beginnings of the Rose des Vents collection started at Granville, in the villa where Christian Dior had spent his childhood, where the couturier’s passion for flowers took root, from hawthorn, mignonette, and his beloved roses. Later on, in Paris, Christian Dior, who was highly superstitious, found a star on the ground, from which he decided to open his own couture house as a signal of his destiny.
