Art Deco and wartime art have become the main theme of this season for many fashion houses. History repeats itself as glamor in art, which flourished over a hundred years ago, is now taking root in a grim post-pandemic era.

Jeanne Lanvin lived and worked during the period when people were caught between the World War I and the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. Her creations from those days are now being taken over by the current creative director, Bruno Sialelli, whois exploring the brand's archives to present a magnificent and luxurious autumn-winter collection.

&ldquo;The pandemic is becoming less complex and scary in the eyes of people,&rdquo; Sialelli said during the show. &ldquo;There is something about these moments (between Covid and war) that makes us nervous and at the same time optimistic about the future. Because this is the time when creativity and culture must offer their ideas as an antidote."
Sialelli presented a collection in the style of video noir with a powerful electronic soundtrack by Yasmina Dexter. He describes the designs as "a transition from the past to the present": jackets, skirts, jumpsuits - some with rather wide soft shoulders, and outfits that combine a long coat / jacket with a shirt and trousers. Oddly enough, they all have a touch of nostalgia and classics, like old evening dresses.

Intricate jacquard and fully beaded motifs bring an Art Deco spirit to the runway, along with Jeanne Lanvin's signature oversized fish scale print. Sialelli loves timeless motifs, just as Jeanne Lanvin loved Egypt.

&ldquo;From Cecil B. DeMille to sci-fi movies like Dune or Stargate, there is something very graphic, modern and futuristic about Egypt,&rdquo; Sialelli says. Denis Villeneuve's interpretation of Dune last year has inspired many designers this season, and Lanvin is no exception.
