What is sensitive skin?

Research shows that nearly 70 percent of women and men feel they have sensitive skin. But what exactly is sensitive skin? Sensitive skin is a state of hyper-reactivity of the skin to environmental factors. People with sensitive skin will react more strongly when the skin comes into contact with cosmetics or soap. A cold or warm climate can also have an influence. The result is a burning, stinging or pulling sensation of the skin . These symptoms are linked to the menstrual cycle, but also, for example, to the weather, cleaning products and clothing.

From a clinical perspective, one speaks of sensitive skin in both a subjective and objective way. The burning or pulling sensation experienced by patients are also referred to as subjective indicators of sensitive skin. An objective qualification of sensitive skin is more difficult to take because there is often no external indication. It is noted, however, that people with subjectively sensitive skin often have much drier and less supple skin than average.

How do you treat sensitive skin?

There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for sensitive skin due to the diverse nature of the causes and symptoms of the condition. However, there are means to improve or control sensitive skin. For example, it is important to feed the skin sufficiently, with a day and night cream for example. In addition, anti-inflammatory agents can help soothe the skin.

5 step skincare routine for sensitive skin

STEP 1. CLEAN

The first step to glowing skin is cleansing. It makes little sense to apply products to the face when the pores are clogged with make-up residue, dirt, particles of air pollution, and so on. It&#39;s important for those of us with sensitive skin to choose a gentle formula that won&#39;t strip the skin&#39;s natural oils . Below you will find some products that can help.
