In the heart of Madrid at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the first major exhibition dedicated to Cristóbal Balenciaga will be held. If you happen to be in the Spanish capital, this is something you do not want to miss.

This is what happens when&nbsp;Balenciaga meets art. Until September 22, the Spanish outlet&nbsp;Las Rosas, the equivalent of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficiel.be/art-culture/maasmechelen-village-organise-sa-toute-premiere-foire-d-art-contemporain" target="_blank">Maasmechelen Village</a>, collaborates with the National Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza and offers the exhibition&nbsp;Balenciaga and Spanish Painting.&nbsp;The show is a unique experience that links the works of one&nbsp;of the most admired and influential fashion designers of all time to Spanish paintings from the 16th to the 20th century. The first major exhibition on the Basque designer has gathered not only some of his most beautiful creations but also a selection of artworks by remarkable Spanish artists.

Proud of its origins, the designer included a lot of references to his culture in his collections. Artistic elements are present in many pieces, for example, a&nbsp;train of a flamenco dancer&#39;s&nbsp;dress, the glitter of a bullfighter&#39;s costume or the aesthetics of the Spanish court of&nbsp;Habsburg translating into velvety black fabrics adorned with stones. Even in his most avant-garde period,&nbsp;Crist&oacute;bal Balenciaga&nbsp;showed a strong artistic personality with a distinctive style and maintained these influences by reinterpreting the latest&nbsp;techniques and styles in a modern way.

Truly echoing art, each piece of clothing is associated with a painter or an era. A selection of 90 dresses from the Crist&oacute;bal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, the Costume Museum in Madrid, and the Barcelona Design Museum have been borrowed for the exhibition. Some pieces will also be presented to the public for the first time since they are a part of&nbsp;private collections in Spain and elsewhere. As for the paintings, an exceptional collection of 55 works has been assembled thanks to loans from Spanish institutions such as the Prado Museum, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, and the L&aacute;zaro Galdiano Museum.
